Strengths and limitations

HubSpot

Strengths

  • Free CRM with no time limit for up to 2 users and 1,000 contacts
  • Sales, marketing and service tools share one CRM database, so every interaction sits on one record
  • View-only seats are free and unlimited on paid plans, so stakeholders can see reports without a paid seat
  • Starter tiers need no onboarding purchase, so small teams can start the same day
  • Large integration ecosystem: HubSpot cites over 2,000 marketplace apps

Limitations

  • Professional and Enterprise require one-time onboarding fees ($1,500 to $7,000 depending on Hub and tier)
  • Marketing Hub is priced by marketing contacts, so cost grows with list size, not just headcount
  • Large price step from Starter (from $7 promotional, $20 regular) to Professional (from $90 per seat)
  • Seat types and HubSpot Credits make the total cost harder to forecast
  • Advanced automation and custom reporting sit in Professional and above

Pipedrive

Strengths

  • Low entry price: Lite at US$14 per seat per month billed annually
  • 14-day free trial on every plan, no credit card required
  • Growth adds email sync, automations with if/else steps, sequences and forecasting
  • API access, webhooks and single sign-on are listed on every plan
  • Premium bundles LeadBooster, Projects and Smart Docs, which are add-ons on lower plans

Limitations

  • No free plan
  • Lite lacks email sync and automation, so most teams need Growth or above
  • Lead capture, projects, documents and web visitor tracking cost extra below Premium
  • Marketing is limited to the Campaigns add-on rather than a full marketing suite
  • Plan names, limits and prices changed in 2026, so older reviews may be out of date

The short answer

HubSpot and Pipedrive both suit small and mid-sized teams, but they are built for different jobs. HubSpot is an all-in-one platform: a free CRM with paid Sales, Marketing and Service Hubs on the same database. Pipedrive is a focused sales CRM built around visual deal pipelines, sold per seat with no free plan but a 14-day trial.

Pricing compared

Both vendors publish prices per seat per month, billed annually, in USD. We read both pricing pages on 20 October 2026.

For a five-person sales team on list prices, HubSpot Starter at the regular $20 per seat comes to $100 a month and Pipedrive Growth to $120 a month. The gap widens at the next step: HubSpot Professional starts at $450 a month for five seats plus the $1,500 onboarding fee, while Pipedrive Premium is $245 a month. This is an illustration from list prices only; promotions, add-ons and tax change the real figure.

Where HubSpot is stronger

  • A free way to start. The free CRM has no time limit for up to two users and 1,000 contacts. Pipedrive has a trial only.
  • Sales and marketing in one place. HubSpot’s Sales, Marketing and Service Hubs share one CRM database. Pipedrive’s marketing is limited to its Campaigns add-on.
  • Free view-only seats. Paid HubSpot plans include unlimited view-only seats, so managers and other teams can see reports without a paid seat.

Where Pipedrive is stronger

  • Predictable per-seat cost. Four plans from $14 to $69 per seat with no onboarding fees. HubSpot’s Professional and Enterprise tiers add one-time onboarding of $1,500 to $7,000 depending on Hub and tier, and seat types and credits make costs harder to forecast.
  • A smaller step up. Moving from Growth ($24) to Premium ($49) is a much smaller jump than HubSpot’s Starter to Professional step.
  • Sales tools at a mid-range price. Growth, at $24 per seat, adds email sync, if/else automations, sequences and forecasting, and Pipedrive lists API access and webhooks on every plan.

Watch-outs for each

HubSpot: Marketing Hub is priced by marketing contacts, so cost grows with list size as well as headcount, and advanced automation and custom reporting sit in Professional and above. Pipedrive: Lite has no email sync or automation, so most teams will need Growth or above; lead capture, projects and documents are add-ons below Premium. Pipedrive also changed its plan names, limits and prices in 2026, so older reviews may describe plans that no longer exist.

Which should you choose?

Choose HubSpot if you want to start free, or if marketing and sales need to work from the same records. Choose Pipedrive if your team mainly works deals through a pipeline and you want a lower, more predictable per-seat price as you grow. Either way, use the free plan or the trial with your real pipeline before you commit, and price the tier you will need in a year, not just the one you need today.
