How We Check Software Prices
Software prices change, vary by country and hide in add-ons. These are the six checks we run before a price appears on SoftPilot.
Software pricing is one of the hardest things to get right on a review site. Plans are renamed, promotions come and go, and the same page can show different numbers to different visitors. This is how we handle it on every SoftPilot profile.
1. We only use the vendor’s official pages
Prices come from the vendor’s own pricing page, help centre or price list, never from another review site or a reseller. Each source is listed at the bottom of the profile with the date we read it.
2. We record the date, currency and billing period
A price means little without context. Every pricing note says when we checked it, which currency it is in, and whether it assumes monthly or annual billing. Where a vendor says prices exclude tax or depend on your billing country, we say that too.
3. We watch for regional prices
Some pricing pages show prices in the visitor’s local currency. When a page would only show us a regional price, we label it as regional or mark the US dollar price as “Not verified”, rather than converting it ourselves.
4. We separate promotions from regular prices
When a vendor shows a promotional price, we give the regular price next to it. A temporary discount is not a fair basis for comparing tools.
5. We include the costs that are easy to miss
Required onboarding fees, seat minimums, usage-based credits and paid add-ons can matter more than the headline price. We list them in the profile’s pricing facts and limitations.
6. We say when we couldn’t verify something
If a price isn’t public, or a page wouldn’t show it to us, the profile says so. We would rather show “Not verified” than a number we can’t stand behind.
Prices still change
Even with these checks, a price can change the day after we read it. Always confirm on the vendor’s site before you buy, and if you spot something out of date, tell us through our corrections process and we will fix it.
