What is Mailchimp?

Mailchimp is an email marketing and automation platform with four plans: Free, Essentials, Standard and Premium. Plans are priced by contact count and limit monthly email sends as a multiple of contacts. Automation flows, generative AI features and enhanced automations are on the higher plans.

Who should use Mailchimp?

• Small businesses and creators sending newsletters, starting on the free plan.
• Growing teams who need flows, segmentation and several seats on Standard.
• Not ideal for anyone who needs automation on a free plan, since free excludes automation flows.

Mailchimp pricing

Mailchimp prices by contact band, from 0–500 contacts up to 1,000,000+. On 20 Oct 2026 it offered 50% off for 12 months on Essentials, Standard and Premium, even if you switch between them, and a 15% discount for nonprofits. Overages are billed automatically if you exceed contact or send limits. A one-month free trial of Premium is available to qualified new customers through sales.

Prices not verified in USD: Mailchimp’s pricing page showed regional prices for our location rather than US list prices, and the post-promotion price was not displayed. Check the page for your country and contact count, and note the price after the 12-month discount.

Ease of use and implementation

SoftPilot has not tested Mailchimp hands-on. Because sends are capped as a multiple of contacts, frequent senders should check that 10×, 12× or 15× covers their schedule before choosing a plan.

Should you shortlist Mailchimp?

Shortlist Mailchimp if you want a familiar newsletter tool with a free start and room to add flows and seats on Standard.

Look elsewhere if you need automation on a free or very cheap plan (consider Brevo or ActiveCampaign), or ecommerce-first features (consider Klaviyo).
